now that i've been away from the cult going on 4 years, one huge absurdity that sticks out in my mind is that we were doing things out of service to an invisible king.

let me repeat an invisible king, whose only proof that he existed was through a global public relations magazine distribution campaign.

no visible show of this king's sovreignty, no activity by this king to act on his campaign platform.

1.the organization itself denies access to reality and substitutes its own version, interpretations and meanings.. a.only watchtower approved publications are allowed.. b.no higher education is to be pursued.. c.no non-jw friends or associations are encouraged with their "outside" points of view.. d.no free-style questioning of doctrine or criticism permitted.

curiousity is verboten.. e.threat of being "marked" or disassociated looms over them.

2.between every real-world event and the rank and file jw's mind is a roadblock.. a.the moment of identifying is short-circuited by an interpretive moment of re-labeling in watchtower-speak.. b.all things happening are forced into a narrow storyline and propagandized as end times happenings leading to armageddon.. 3.social and personal identity is expunged and replaced by a collective persona: "jehovah's witness".. a.private thinking is red-flagged as selfish and sinful.. b.personal improvement, welfare and ambition is crushed and door-to-door ministry substituted as "worthy" endeavors.. c.self-conscious obsession permeates witness awareness as each person is transformed into a public spectacle of performance for judgement.. d.since you aren't an individual you don't really have a right to fall in love and marry or educate or earn.

Meeting with an Elder and his wife

i'm a non-witness who is doing research on jehovah's witnesses (and has been for several years).

i just got out of a meeting with an elder and his wife.

i'm still somewhat stupefied.

@ abe you said "the woman took me to Proverbs 8 and started telling me that Jesus had created everything."

If she said that. Witnesses and xjws would of known she was on her way out. They always speak of Jehovah talking in the book of Proverbs.

A good JW wife has to be submissive to the head of household. She doen't have to eat the dinner, but if you want it cooked she has to cook it and help prepare the table for the meal. If decorations are involved you can lovingly take the lead in that area.

Col 2:16 and Romans 14:4-10 will really go along ways to help in preaparing her mind mentally. You may want to help her put the watchtower material down and just read and discuss the bible on it's own merit.

first post here: longtime lurker but hesitant to take the leap.

my story is pretty much like everyone elses with little variance, but i thought id add a few details that especially tormented me when i was in.

im sure these are familiar, im afraid this is a bit of a rant.. --paradise: the constant chatter about a perfect world when most in the hall were not even slightly interested in taking care of the earth now.

@BarharborBarbara- Welcome and we hear you. Your post speaks volumes. Don't even think about the single, yet successful single mothers trying to raise their children in the truth. They get it real bad. Especially from the Elders with children in unhappy marriages. They never would want their miserable wives to even think for a minute they could make it by themselves.

Zoo's i really enjoyed "Not guilty anymore." I liked it so much I've added it to my list. I never really knew the burden of guilt that had been placed upon me.

I just knew the things that kept me from sinking into a deep unrecoverable depression were some well memorized scripture and songs that I new as a little girl from the... oh, I hate to say it, but from the death row; Christendom. So sad that they don't recognize that they fall into that title too.

I would listen to the next song I'm about to post and be able to still just walk around with my head up. GOD is so good. He surely gave me the food that I needed at the proper time.

I don't feel noways tired starts about a min or so into the video, but here version is the one I love the best online thus far.
